San Francisco Lyric Opera Moves to Cowell
October 11, 2007

After four years, 15 productions and 60 performances, the San Francisco Lyric Opera is moving to the Cowell Theater at Fort Mason.  The new location will have many advantages for this growing company. In addition to an expanded stage and state of the art technical facilities, the 400+ seat auditorium will allow more than 400 additional opera lovers to watch each production that were often sold out at the Florence Gould Theater.

Access to Fort Mason is also more convenient for both public transportation, arrival by automobile and pleasant walks from the Marina and North Beach residential areas. The venue is quite child friendly, allowing us to better accommodate the children under 12 who are always admitted free and serve school groups.

In the first season at Cowell Theater San Francisco Lyric Opera will be revisiting an old friend in Puccini’s La Boheme, bringing a seminal 20th century work to our audience with Britten’s Turn of The Screw, and stage a truly “grand” opera with our first production of Verdi’s Aida.
