J. RAYMOND MEYERS is well-known and highly regarded as a consummate performer of leggiero and ‘character’ roles. He performs extensively in concert, recital and opera. Recent appearances have included his debut with Portland Opera singing the role of Tony in A View from the Bridge. Mr. Meyers returned to Opera San José to portray the dunderhead tenor Alfred in their last season’s production of Die Fledermaus. He just finished a successful run of Romeo & Juliet with Walnut Creek’s Festival Opera portraying the volatile role of Tybalt. He has performed with several West coast companies such as Anchorage Opera, Sacramento Opera, and Santa Barbara Opera. After being spotted at Opera San José singing the drunken yet lovable Bardolfo in their 2001 production of Falstaff, Mr. Meyers was invited to audition for San Francisco Opera’s Falstaff which resulted in covering Bardolfo and also lead to subsequent covers of two more roles during their 2002 season. Upcoming performances include a return to Anchorage Opera as Gastone in La Traviata, the tenor soloist in Modesto Symphony’s production of Carmina Burana and a return to the Santa Cruz Symphony for a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony as well as a return to Sacramento Opera for Pang in Turandot.
